Bio
Robert Perez is a pianist, organist, composer, and educator based in Los Angeles. With his expertise in classical, jazz, and contemporary musical traditions, he takes joy in elevating the musical impact of every project he's involved in. Highlights of his professional career include leading performances at iconic jazz venues like the Blue Whale, Catalina's, and The World Stage, as well as serving as rehearsal pianist for projects with Los Angeles Philharmonic.
As a composer and bandleader, Robert typically aims to bridge together the worlds of chamber, symphonic, and improvised music, resulting in works that are fantastic, adventurous, and spontaneous. He is a three-time winner of the ASCAP Foundation's Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award for his works: The Flowers Bloom–for pipe organ and piano (2022), Freefall and Flight–for two pianos (2017), and Climbing Away–for piano trio (2013).
Robert graduated from CalArts in 2018 with a MFA in Piano, and in 2015 with a BFA in Jazz Keyboard. He has had the pleasure of studying with Ming Tsu, David Roitstein, Vicki Ray, Aron Kallay, Patricia Mabee, and Joe Bagg. Robert currently serves as staff accompanist at CSU Dominguez Hills, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, and St. Bernard Catholic Church.
